Pear Crisp - your answer to "What do I to bring to a holiday meal?"
The easy pear crisp is the perfect answer to "What do I bring to a holiday gathering?" This simple, yet inviting crisp blends sweet pears, my gluten-free crisp oat topping, and warm spices in a vegan and gluten-free winter dessert that everyone can eat and love.
Pear crisp? True, most crisp recipes are made with either berries or apples. As much as I love berries and apples, I’m a pear girl, through and through. I especially love them still a bit crisp - sliced with a bit of almond butter for a snack and I’m good to go. This pear crisp takes advantage of the sweetness of ripe pears, complimenting them with my most favorite chai spice blend (think cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg and allspice). The result is a sweet-spicy chai-inspired vegan and gluten-free dessert. Serve it warm and bubbly or with an enormous scoop of dairy free-vanilla ice cream, or cool with a dallop of dairy-free cream topping. It is a must bake for your family and friends that won't keep you all day in the kitchen.
Making chai spice for your pear crisp.
Yes! This recipe is quick and easy. It begins with a chai spice blend that is an assortment of Simply Organic spices. Love chai spice? Do yourself a solid and make a little extra for adding to baked goods or your morning oatmeal. Store extra chai spice in an airtight container until ready to use. You can also add a little coconut sugar to sweeten extra chai spice and use it in your coffee, making it warm, delicious, and refined sugar free.
A word about gluten-free oats.
Many people ask are oats gluten-free. The answer is that it depends. Pure oats are by nature, gluten-free and safe for most people with celiac disease or gluten intolerance.
However, while oats themselves don’t contain gluten, they often grow alongside other crops. Additionally, the same equipment is typically used to harvest crops in neighboring fields, which may also lead to cross-contamination. Oats and products made with oats may also be processed, prepared, and packaged in the same facilities as gluten-containing products.
To avoid this, read the label and look for oats that are certified gluten-free as in most cases, can be trusted.
