    List of Gluten-Free Medications

G-Free Foodie GuidesGluten Free Advice + Experts

    Share

This list is by GlutenFreeDrugs.com - an amazing informational website that is FREE to use - just like G-Free Foodie.  Making sure medications, both over-the-counter and prescription, are free of gluten is critical for people with Celiac Disease or gluten intolerance.

    Here's a little more info about GlutenFreeDrugs.com:

Gluten Free Drugs is authored and maintained by a clinical pharmacist as a public service, receiving no compensation whatsoever for providing this information.  Information for this website is obtained from a number of sources, including personal contact with the manufacturers and input from other individuals who contact manufacturers.  The information is continually updated as it is obtained. This site is for informational purposes only.  Please note that a reasonable attempt is made to provide accurate information.  The webmaster is not responsible for any error contained within.  All persons should interpret the information with caution and should seek medical advice when necessary.

We love them! This is People Helping People at its finest. A HUGE thank you from G-Free Foodie to everyone at Gluten Free Drugs. What they are doing is SO important - we want to share the word about them to everyone living Gluten Free and caring for someone who is G-Free.

If you need additional help living gluten-free, check out this of Ingredient Names of Gluten, or any of our other Gluten-Free Guides.

All of the following medications are gluten free unless otherwise noted. If a manufacturer has made us aware that the product does contain gluten, that' is noted in italics so consumers know to avoid that drug.

NOTE: Generic drugs can be produced from many manufacturers and not all manufacturers use the same fillers or excipients.  When there is a generic drug listed the manufacturer will be in the parenthesis.  This does not imply that these are the only gluten free manufacturers but that these were the only ones checked.

I do not believe Sumatriptan (Dr Reddy’s) is gf. Made me sooo sick! I even filled out a complaint form with the FDA. Or if it is gf it runs on the same conveyor with products that are not gf.

      Hello,

My wife of 51 years was recently diagnosed with the beginning of macular degeneration. Her ophthalmologist at Harborview Medical Center (Eye Institute) in Seattle strongly suggested that she begin taking AREDS vitamins/minerals in the exact dosage as the AREDS study used.

The handout she received showed that PreserVision by Bausch and Lomb was one of the preferred and was available in local stores such as pharmacies and Wal-mart.

It seemed clear that Viteyes was the preferred vitamin/mineral that they recommended. It is not available locally, and must be purchased online or by phone.

PreserVision does not list any of the excipient ingredients most likely to have gluten. No pharmacist could determine whether it was gluten-free or not. Calls to Bausch and Lomb were equivocal: "We think that it is gluten-free, but the medical department has the authoritative say on that."

Viteyes has no Internet information on its gluten-free status--yes or no.

There are a number of other manufacturers of this vitamin/mineral product. But none of them are included on this list.

I think it would be a very helpful service if we could know for certain which of these AREDS formula products are, indeed, gluten-free.

      Kind regards,

      Tom Henstock

I take oxycodone 15 mg. My pharmacist changed brands to Qualitest (Endo's Generic I think). I am gluten intolerant. First thing I got a rash and started having intestinal problems. The rash went away and I continued to take them. I got to a point where the absorption of any of my medications was significantly reduced to a point where I finally decided to stop taking them, and was surprised that I had barely perceptible drug withdrawals, surprising after taking 60mg a day for years, but instead had the same symptoms as when I went gluten free. The company says these are gluten free. IMHO I think they are lying or ignorant of whatever binders they are using. I'm not allergic to anything to speak of, use this brand of drug with caution.

I think your list of gluten free meds needs to be checked. Dr. Reddy's sumatriptan HAS gluten according to the rep I spoke to. I think there needs to be more clarification of GF and no active ingredients containing gluten but could be cross contamination and/or can not certify GF through manufacturing. This is very important for those of us that have celiac disease. I found Mallinkrt, Qualitest, Anchen, Lupen & GlaxcoSmithWesson companies can not certify GF.
