The coffee giant is test-marketing individually wrapped gluten-free baked goods in Florida and Boston locations.
On December 17th, the Facebook support community Gluten-Free South Florida announced that Dunkin’ Donuts was in the midst of a pilot test for gluten-free baked goods, including donuts they described as “dangerously delicious.” With an ever-watching eye on gluten-free options, Michael Savett of Gluten Free Philly picked up on the big news and announced it locally in his weekly blog update.
As word of the possibility of gluten-free products from Dunkin’ Donuts spread rapidly across the online gluten-free community, the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) reached out to the company directly to find out more about the options that would be available. A Guest Relations Associate responded via email with the following:
“Thank you for taking the time to contact Dunkin’ Donuts. We are currently testing new gluten-free options at select stores in both Florida and Massachusetts, and while they are still in the testing phase we have received very positive feedback on the new products so far. We do not yet have a timeframe for potential national distribution.”
Savett also reported that Fred Guttenberg, owner of a Dunkin’ Donuts franchise in Florida responded to the original Facebook post made by Gluten-Free South Florida saying, “I am extremely proud to be able to offer this test. I have worked with Dunkin’ Donuts on this ever since my son was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. This is an operations test only and limited to my two stores in Florida and a few locations in Boston. This will be moving to a larger test in February and full market roll-out closer to summer.”
While it is unclear if or when Dunkin’ Donuts will be releasing gluten-free products nationwide, we do know that gluten-free advocates will keep us posted!
