It took us a few days to recover from the sugar coma induced by the testing of these products, but now that we're back we have a lot to say!
We had quite an assortment of gluten free cookies, muffins, cupcakes & cookie bars. Hands down the favorites were Shabtai Gourmet & WOW Baking Company, there wasn’t anything we didn’t like from either product line.
We especially liked the Swiss Chocolate Roll (like a giant Ho-Ho) from Shabtai and everybody (including Gluten-eaters) liked the Shabtai Creme Bon Bons - and all the Shabtai stuff is dairy free too, most is nut, corn & soy free also - marked clearly on each box. If there's somebody out there craving a traditional store-bought Raspberry Jelly Roll, it ain't getting better than Shabtai's version.
Wow Baking Company has a large selection of cookies, cookie dough and cake mix. For this review we tested the Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, Lemon Burst, Ginger Molasses, Oregon Oatmeal Cookies & Brownies. I have to say that Wow is the most appropriate name for this company. The soft, chewy texture was perfect and left nothing to be desired. You have to try the Oregon Oatmeal Cookies…they were the crowd favorite.
Udi’s!!! We have yet to be disappointed with any product from Udi’s. For this tasting we tried the Lemon Streusel Muffins and loved them. The muffins are light, moist and have a clean lemon flavor. The only people that didn’t like the Lemon Streusel Muffin, are not fond of lemon flavored desserts in the first place. So the moral of the story is, if you didn’t like the taste of something when it had gluten, you’re not going to like it without gluten.
Kinnikinnick’s K-Toos are sandwich cookies that come in two flavors; Fudge Sandwich & Chocolate Vanilla. These are especially great for kids, they look like Oreos and could be crushed up and used as an ice cream topper for special occasions.
If you’ve been searching for a gluten free version of Rugelech, look no further. Katz Gluten Free has 3 flavors to choose from; Cinnamon, Vanilla & Chocolate. We also tried Katz Chocolate Chip Cookies and liked the chocolate flavor.
Lucy’s has a line of tasty cookies that are Gluten Free, Certified Vegan & Kosher. The Cinnamon Thins were the favorite flavor from their line which also includes Chocolate Chip Cookie, Oatmeal Cookie & Sugar Cookie. You can find these cookies at Whole Foods, Kroger, and some Starbucks carry grab & go packs.
