Gluten-free round up..product and restaurant news of the week

There is so much going on in the gluten-free community lately that it is hard to keep up. Here is a rundown of what gluten-free information I have learned about for the week.  This post will be a little longer because there wasn’t time for me to put it all together before the end of the previous week!

  • Amy’s Kitchen has introduced several new gluten-free products. The Sonoma Burger is a combination of organic quinoa, walnuts, mushrooms, veggies and spices. The burger, which is gluten, dairy and soy free, will be available in stores beginning this month. The 240-calorie Light & Lean Black Bean and Cheese Enchilada contains organic black beans, tofu, brown rice, vegetables and cheese in an organic corn tortilla with a blend of tomatillo and ranchero sauces. Also part of the Light & Lean line is the 220-calorie Light & Lean Soft Taco Fiesta, a soft corn tortilla between a layer of brown rice, shredded vegetables and sweet corn and a layer of black beans and cheese, covered with a blend of our tomatillo and ranchero sauces.  Thanks again to Gluten Free Philly for the information.
  • GFN Foods is launching a new product at the end of this month: All Purpose Flour.  It will be sold in a 2 lb. bag on their website and it will be dairy/casein and soy free.  Their products are also available for purchase on Amazon.com by the case.
  • Exclusive to Whole Foods are Late July’s new organic multigrain snack chips. The chips come in three flavors – Sea Salt by the Seashore, Mild Green Mojo and Dude Ranch – and are certified gluten free. (The Dude Ranch variety won the Best New Product award in the food category at the Natural Products Expo East 2010.) The chips will be coming to other outlets soon.  Thanks to Gluten Free Philly for this information.
  • Post’s Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles, rice-based cereals, will soon be certified as Gluten Free and they will contain less sugar.  In response to increased concerns over celiac disease and products containing wheat gluten, the brand went through a rigorous process to achieve Gluten Free status on both Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles products.
  • Rudi’s is offering a $1 Spread the Bread coupon. For every dollar coupon downloaded, Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery will give a dollar to The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) to help in their efforts to better educate physicians in the diagnosis of celiac disease.
  • Subway is test marketing gluten-free baguettes and brownies at their Dallas, TX location only.  They will begin serving sandwiches on gluten-free bread and brownies starting on Monday the 10th.  Depending on the results these gluten-free menu additions may be available nationwide.  More details can be found here.

What a great way to start off 2011!
