Alta Schlesinger had a dream after some of her family members were diagnosed with celiac disease. Already with a propensity toward good cooking, she quickly turned a diagnosis into a fun challenge.

Alta took many kosher traditional family dishes and turned them into gluten-free ones. Neighbors soon were asking for recipes and to purchase meals or dishes. Just six months later, a business was evolved, and she hasn’t stopped since. Daily she is developing new recipe ideas while managing a fruitful gluten-free business, not to mention fulfilling the role of mom.

The flavors of Heaven Mills products are fresh and true-to-taste. The rugelach is out-of-this-world. The chocolate is loaded with layers of gluten-free chocolate and is incredibly soft and doesn’t crumble in your fingers. Alta offers sprinkled cupcakes (a child’s love), pizza crust (which we also used as crackers by baking, breaking, and dipping), brownie cakes, kishka, and more.

My favorite was her cinnamon buns! How she created these with the use of only one grain–corn flour—to taste as good as they do and with the texture they have is beyond me. These are good cold or warm, with butter or without. They are a perfect treat.
Heaven Mills is dedicated gluten-free, lactose-free, wheat-free, tree-nut-free, chemical-free, preservative-free, and casein-free. The bakery is certified by the Stark-K kosher association as well as by The Beth Din of Tartikov. Her products (not the cupcakes) freeze and last well.

Alta has a fine bakery, and my testers and I agree: she’s really got something good here. You can call with special dietary requests, such as sugar- or egg-free, and she will accommodate.

We too love the gluten-free products from Heaven Mills and carry them locally at Return to Eden. Their rugelach tastes just like a fresh danish to me and is so soft and flaky I double checked the package to make sure it was indeed gluten free.

      Nice review Tina.
