FIGO Pasta is expanding their gluten free menu, which already includes more than 35 possible combinations of made-from-scratch pastas and sauces, with the addition of a classic beef meatball. Attendees at the Atlanta Gluten-Free Expo on Saturday, October 22nd will be the first to try the new Gluten-Free Maria meatball, as it will not be available for order at their restaurants until November 1st.
The Gluten-Free Maria meatball is a variation of their popular Nonna Maria meatball. It is made with rice flour and rice rather than bread and it includes a combination of ground beef sirloin, carrots, onions, celery, potatoes, parmesan cheese and a blend of herbs and spices. Each meatball is mixed by hand, rolled into a 2-ounce round and then baked to create a crisp texture on the outside while remaining moist and tender on the inside.
Gluten-Free Maria meatballs are $2 each, and guests may add two or more to their salads and pastas. FIGO's gluten-free menu also includes handmade fusilli pasta, 18 sauces and several fresh salads like their signature Caprese Salad and guest favorite Organic Insalata di Arugula.
FIGO continues to cater to the gluten-free community so the addition of a gluten-free meatball seems like a very natural step. Last year they added a gluten-free crepe filled with Nutella as a dessert, so maybe gluten-free breadsticks, or gluten-free ravioli are next. I have dined at FIGO many times and loves the gluten-free pasta, 18 sauce options and the enormous portion sizes (enough for two meals) at very reasonable prices. We have not tried the new gluten-free meatball yet, so we can't wait to sink our teeth into one Saturday.
The Atlanta Gluten-Free Expo takes place on Saturday, October 22nd at the Hilton Hotel in Norcross, GA. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is hosted by the Gluten Intolerance Group of Atlanta (GIG of Atlanta) and costs $10 per person (kids 12 and under free) to attend. Sampling of gluten-free foods begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. with guest speakers and programs rounding out the day. Products will also be available for sale, so attendees should come prepared to take advantage of discount show prices.
