Udi’s Gluten Free Foods came about several years ago when their Certified Master Baker, Chadwick White was asked by a friend with celiac disease to create good-tasting gluten-free bread.  Unimpressed with what was on the market, White was determined to create superior gluten-free bread solely for Udi’s.  White and his team of skilled bakers used their craft, applied artisan baking techniques and ultimately created the secret recipe for Udi’s Gluten Free Foods.

With freshly baked loaves in hand, they presented the soft and moist gluten-free bread to founder Udi Baron and business partners.  Upon first bite, the team was convinced White had successfully combined the perfect ingredients for what is now known as their signature white sandwich bread.

Shortly after, the team reached out to a local celiac chapter and invited members to sample the freshly baked gluten-free bread.  Words cannot describe the positive reactions achieved that day – people jumped for joy while others were moved to tears.

Thanks to that celiac meeting and the outpouring support and demand from the local gluten-free community, King Soopers in Denver and Whole Foods Rocky Mountain Division put Udi’s Gluten Free Foods on their shelves.  Currently Udi’s Gluten Free is in more than 15,000 stores nationwide, including Hawaii.

“Udi’s has formed a real connection with our gluten-free customers because we’ve been able to help make their lives simpler and more joyous by providing products that taste as good as gluten filled products – Udi’s has helped millions of people make a seamless transition to a gluten-free lifestyle.”  said Denise Sirovatka, VP of Marketing.

Udi’s is proud to support celiac disease programs including the University of Maryland Celiac Center and National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA).  Udi’s provides all the bread, pizza crusts, hamburger buns and muffins to The Taylor Family Foundation Camp Arroyo at the YMCA in Livermore, California.  “Our products help feed the over 300 kids with celiac disease that attend the camp in July “It’s unbelievable how excited the kids get when the eat a sandwich on Udi’s bread.” said Sirovatka.

In May Udi’s launched the Ancient Grain Bread Series, which contains a wholesome balance of nutrients, vitamins and delicious earthy flavors.  The series includes two varieties; Millet-Chia and Omega-Salba. “The greatest opportunity for growth are is offering gluten-free products with improved nutritional value such as fiber, but also offering gluten free choices for artisan breads such as ciabatta or baguette”, Sirovatka points out.  The choices in the Udi’s line seem to get better all the time, and that’s a welcome change for those of us living gluten free!

Thank you, Udi’s for joining us at the Eat Well Event. Thank you for continuing to expand your line of Gluten Free products.  We are grateful for your commitment to nutritional value and good flavor.
